Veteran local government administrator Percy C. Ashcraft has been named interim county administrator for Sussex County while the Board of Supervisors searches for a permanent administrator.

Percy C. Ashcraft, President of ACP

The Board unanimously appointed Ashcraft following a special meeting Thursday, Sept. 3. He will begin work Tuesday, Sept. 8, and is expected to serve for the next several months. The Berkeley Group will head the search for a permanent administrator.

Ashcraft has more than 30 years of local government experience, including service as chief executive for the City of Clarksburg, West Virginia, and as county administrator in Caroline, Prince George and King William counties. Most recently, he has served as a special consultant to the Town of Bowling Green.

“We are very pleased to have Mr. Ashcraft serve as our interim administrator until we can fill the position permanently,” Board of Supervisors Chairman Steve White said. “He understands how to move our government operations along and prepare to hand it off to a permanent successor.”

Ashcraft is president of Ashcraft Community Partners, a consulting firm specializing in work with local governments and nonprofit organizations.
